ATOPCON CALLS FOR SYNERGY WITH STATE GOVERNMENT

The New Towns Development Authority (NTDA) received the Association of Town Planning Consultants Lagos State Chapter (ATOPCON) who paid a curtesy visit to the Authority.

The visit which bothered around the development in the area of planning and layout approval for a unified and robust Masterplan for the State.

The General Manager, New Towns Development Authority (NTDA), Tpl. Olakunle Aboyeji welcomed the Association and briefed them about the activities of the Authority which include Review of Schemes; Development of Ito-Omu; Clearing of encroachments; Open up new areas and Human Capacity Development.

He also called for the synergy and collaboration in the development of planning strategy in order to achieve set goals for Lagos State.

Chairman of (ATOPCON), Tpl. Dr. David Olawale responded that the State Government and the Association should see themselves as one and that when it comes to the development of the State "we are in it together and will continue to support the State Government and the Authority in whatever capacity it can to meet set goals in order to achieve more.
He noted that the developed areas within the State still needed to be reviewed from time to time to accommodate the influx of people into the State.

Tpl. Dr. Kola Olayiwola RTP, FNITP former Chairman on the other hand commended the State Government on the engagement of consultants for the preparation of the Masterplan for the State through the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development (MPPUD).
He opined that the review of layouts should be backed up with regular monitoring of NTDA schemes and that NTDA should be part of such activities.

He also said the introduction of Public Private Partnership (PPP) will help in providing infrastructural amenities in such Sites where not provided to allow allottees take possession and move in to develop their plots.

Aboyeji raised the issue of the Authority not having copies of layout approval by private allottees and urged the association to look into how copies of the approvals can be warehoused in the Authority in order to guide development and capture what is on ground on such allocations.
