LASG WAGES WAR ON SHANTIES AND SQUATTERS

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday began the removal and clearing of shanties and squatters within Abijo GRA Scheme to rid the scheme of all forms of illegal activities and environmental nuisance perpetrated by the squatters inhabiting the shanties.

The Director Town planning Services, TPL. Olakunle Aboyeji, who led the team said that the Authority has commenced the process of removal and clearing of all shanties and squatters within all government-owned schemes throughout the state starting with Abijo GRA Scheme .

“The Lagos State Government frowns at erection of shanties in and around government schemes and is set to fully implement a zero tolerance against all illegal shanties and squatter within government schemes"

“Lagos state government is committed to promoting a clean, conducive, decent, healthy atmosphere in the schemes, hence the shakeup Aboyeji said.

He stressed that, all zonal officers would be on guard to oversee and ensure all illegal shanties within each scheme are quickly identified once they spring up, and brought to the attention of the Authority for prompt intervention and removal in order to safeguard and improve the aesthetics of such schemes.

The routine policy will curb any nefarious tendencies of the illegal occupier of the shanties and also reduce the rate of depreciation of such government infrastructures’’ he said

He opined that the development of sustainable Communities in a friendly and conducive environment is a major priority of the administration of His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu. To this end, no illegal structure or shanties will be accommodated or permitted within the Abijo Scheme or any other government scheme for that matter.

He noted that the dislodging of shanties and the removal of the illegal occupiers of such shanties was going to be a routine operation.
